Surgery To Improve Prominent Ears (Otoplsaty)
Otoplasty can be needed on one or both ears. This surgery improves protruding ears and sets the ears closer to the side of the head. It is usually not performed prior to the age of 5 years. Incisions are located in the crease behind the ear and are usually very inconspicuous. It makes a tremendous difference in the self-esteem of the individual. Most insurance companies will not cover this procedure even though it is a congenital defect.
